Xi’an is a UNESCO World Heritage City, with two of its six sites on the World Heritage List, including the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Wild Goose Pagoda. Xi’an is the starting point of the Silk Road, one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation, and has been the capital of thirteen dynasties throughout history.
Xi’an is a historical and cultural destination and it is suitable for tourism all year round, but considering the climatic characteristics, the best time to visit Xi’an is from March to May and from September to November every year. Spring is in full bloom and there are especially many cherry blossoms in Xi’an, with the most famous ones in Qinglong Temple. And the weather is neither cold nor hot, it is relatively comfortable. In autumn, the weather is cooler and the fruits are ripe. The beginning of November every year is the most beautiful time for the ginkgo forest. There are many ginkgo forests in Xi’an, and the layers of red, green, and yellow ginkgo leaves make a colorful painting.

Xi’an is cold and dry in winter, so it is better to visit indoor attractions. In summer, it is very hot, especially in high summer, with strong sunlight. Try to avoid places without shade during the day, such as the Xi’an City Wall; however, indoor attractions like the Shaanxi History Museum are no matter. In summer, it is more appropriate to visit scenic areas around Xi’an, such as Mount Hua. In summer, you need to protect yourself from the sun and avoid traveling outdoors during the hottest time of the day.
The low season to visit Xi’an is from November to March. It is cold and dry at that time with relatively few tourists. Many attractions have off-season prices, so you can save some money. Off-season attractions are less crowded, like the Terracotta Warriors, which are less visited at that time.
